BotanAboubakarical Inks is hosting Master Dyer Aboubakar Fofana (from Mali), in Somerset this June 6-17th, to learn to prepare and use a traditional fermented indigo vat, with indigo leaves and only natural plant materials. This vat process takes 10 days to develop, and in the mean time we will also learn to prepare and use a powdered indigo vat and do mordant dyeing, with plants such as weld, walnut and madder, as well as mud dyeing.

This workshop will be held in the dye studio of Botanical Inks owner, Babs Behan,  in the beautiful natural setting of the Yeo Valley, North Somerset, in the foothills of the Mendip Hills, with views across to Wales from the surrounding hills. The studio is 30 minutes drive from Bristol and 10 minutes drive from Bristol airport. There are lots of accommodation options nearby and regular transport links from Bristol to the airport.

This is an exceptional opportunity to learn from a great Master of natural dyeing, and probably the last time he will teach this course in the UK.

Full details of the 10 day course can be seen here:
