Built in 1710, the home in 1815 of the exiled French Duc d’Orleans, the great house itself no longer exists. It was sold to a gravel company and demolished, though no gravel was found. The pavilion, an early Georgian gem now containing the gallery, was saved from destruction by a wealthy well-wisher who donated it to Richmond Council. With its large windows and beautiful light, it is a fit venue for this exhibition. The London Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers has been in existence for over fifty years and is thriving with 180 members who meet monthly to share and exchange ideas and expertise on textiles. Their last show at the Wetlands Centre in Barnes was a memorable event. Such a feast of hand spun, hand woven and hand dyed textiles is not to be missed.
